Plenty Gorge Park
Ignite your child’s curiosity and connection to nature in this hands-on rewilding workshop where they’ll step back in time to learn the ancient art of traditional fire lighting.
Guided by experienced bush educators, children will discover how to safely and responsibly build, prepare, and light fires using natural materials and age-old techniques — no matches or lighters required! They’ll learn about the importance of fire in Indigenous culture and survival practices to gain a deep respect for this powerful natural element.
Located in South Morang, 20 km north-east of Melbourne at Plenty Gorge Park. Plenty Gorge Park is a magnificent natural haven, where rugged bushland, winding trails, and dramatic gorge views come together to create one of Melbourne’s most breathtaking outdoor escapes.
In this workshop, children will:
Explore the bush and learn about local wildlife, plants, and natural habitats.
Learn to light a fire
Learn bushcraft and bush survival skills
Nature connection games
Eco art & craft
Our team of highly experienced Forest School educators will guide and support your child’s learning journey, helping them grow into confident, curious, and capable young explorers. Through hands-on experiences, children are taught how to assess and take safe, age-appropriate risks in the bush. Along the way, they’ll deepen their understanding of the natural environment and discover the wonders of native wildlife in a way that is both meaningful and memorable.
Forest School Melbourne is an all-weather outdoor program, so you need to make sure you bring appropriate weather protection and clothing. Our program will only be cancelled in the event of an extreme weather warning; fire, storm, high temperatures and severe wind.
