🌿 KINN Celebrates Boonwurrung Language and Living Culture

At the Kids in Nature Network, we recognise that children’s connection to nature begins with a deeper understanding of Country, culture and the knowledge that has been shared across generations.

We are proud to celebrate the inclusion of Boonwurrung language in the 50 Words Project, providing an opportunity for people of all ages to hear Boonwurrung language spoken and learn words that connect people to Country, culture and community.

Language is more than words. It carries stories, knowledge, identity and relationships with the natural world. When children hear and learn First Peoples’ languages, they gain a richer understanding of the places where they live, play and learn.

We acknowledge and celebrate the decades of language reclamation and revitalisation led by Professor N’arwee’t Carolyn Briggs AM, alongside the ongoing work of Jason Briggs and Elder Linguist Aunty Fay Stewart-Muir, and the contributions made to ensure Boonwurrung language continues to live, grow and be shared with future generations.

As an organisation that champions children’s connection to nature, KINN values opportunities to learn from and celebrate the living cultures and knowledge systems that have cared for Country for thousands of generations.
